India Women secured the gold medal in the Asian Games 2026 women’s cricket final after defeating Sri Lanka Women by a massive 147 runs at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, on September 22. The victory gave India their second consecutive Asian Games women’s cricket gold medal and their first gold medal of the 2026 Games.

After winning the toss, India chose to bat and produced an impressive 216/3 in 20 overs.
Smriti Mandhana led the scoring with a brilliant 79 runs from 45 balls, including five fours and seven sixes. Her innings also saw her become the first woman cricketer to reach 11,000 international runs.
Shafali Verma provided strong support with 48 off 29 balls, as she and Mandhana added 99 runs for the opening wicket.
Richa Ghosh then delivered a spectacular finish, smashing an unbeaten 49 from just 22 balls, helping India cross the 200-run mark and finish on 216/3.

Chamari Athapaththu was Sri Lanka’s top scorer with 29, but the rest of the batting lineup could not build a meaningful partnership.
Deepti Sharma was the standout bowler with 3/6, while Shafali Verma also claimed 2/3. Shree Charani and Shreyanka Patil picked up two wickets each.

The victory means India have successfully defended their women’s cricket gold medal at the Asian Games. India had also defeated Sri Lanka in the previous Asian Games final at Hangzhou in 2023.
